welcome
Hello there!
I am Miranda King, a 26-year-old Edmonton based YouTuber, Lecturer, and PhD student in Classical Art and Archaeology at the University of Alberta.
I started my undergrad at Mount Allison University as a bachelor of music student playing clarinet and bass clarinet (the original love of my life). I fell in love with Roman archaeology after attending my first field school at Pompeii. After 6 years and a double major with an honours thesis, a minor, and a certificate I graduated and started my Master's at Brock University. Although my undergrad was never easy I realized early on that my GPA wouldn't get me into grad school on its own so I worked to come up with a strategy that worked for me and now I want to share what I learned with others.
As a Classical Art and Archaeology PhD Student at the University of Alberta, my research focuses on understanding the intercultural relationships that the Romans formed in the Near East. Through the lens of scholars such as Penelope M. Allison and Jennifer Baird, I examine how these relationships influenced ancient houses and the objects found within.
I'm also fortunate enough to hold a part-time lecturer position at Mount Allison University teaching anime and visual pop culture! I've been teaching under supervision since 2022 but starting in 2025 I've begun teaching by myself.
When I'm not analysing catalogues or geeking out about anime with my students, you'll find me practicing bass clarinet, junk journaling, or sipping on an iced chai latte.
